A Peek at Our Weekend ~ The One With Lots of Kid Activities

What was in the kitchen ...

Saturday dinners tend to exist of Italian meals with a salad and breadsticks these days. This week it was spaghetti. Then tonight we had to head out of town for a bit so we grabbed McDonald's. We haven't done that in a long time!

An activity we did away from home ...

We have lived here for a full year and haven't been to a particular nearby town at all, until this weekend. Different members of our family were there twice in two days! Brynne had a volleyball tournament there on Friday night and Eli's Scout den attended a Mozarkite show and swap meet and mineral dig on Saturday.

Rick and my mom took Brynne to her tournament while I went with Kyndal to a jewelry party she was co-hosting with Collin's mom. I ordered a new silver ring and a cool necklace.

Then today I ran Dawson "to town" so that he could pick up a video game he has been wanting.

What we learned at church ...

This weekend was Serve 2013 for the United Methodist Church. The children from our church went with our pastor and helped lead service at the nursing home where my grandmother resides. My grandma was having a good day so we got to enjoy some time with her.

Things accomplished at home ...

Rick did a great job of getting the yard mowed and trimmed while I vacuumed and cleaned the bathroom. Then I did loads (no pun intended) of laundry.

My favorite moment ...

Watching Eli crack a large stone with a rock hammer, right down the middle, and open it to see beautiful Mozarkite!

Ways we relaxed ...

After dinner on Saturday night, Rick, Kyndal and I watched the Missouri Tigers football game (Go Mizzou!). I sat in the Sitting Room with the sleeping doggies and got caught up on my pictures and blog while sipping some hot green tea. Then today Rick and I watched World War Z, and then watched a couple of DVR'd episodes of Cedar Cove.

Preparations for the week ahead ...

Tonight I worked on lesson plans for the first part of the week. We are only having school Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday because we are leaving for our 9 day trip to Pensacola with my mom! Oh, I am ready for that trip!!

ABCya

Eli's reading resource teacher shared a website with me yesterday that I would like to pass along. It's called ABCya . There are separate educational sections with fantastic games for ages kindergarten through 5th grade. I browsed the 2nd grade level, and it includes age-appropriate games about Letters, Numbers, Shapes, Geometry, Patterns, Mouse Manipulation, Art and Holiday games. There are lots and lots of fun and creative games for children to play. They are fun, but oh, so educational. Eli's favorite, in his short time playing it, was Create a Car . A lot of the games also have Apps available for purchase (99 cents for most of them) for the iPad and iPhone. I have been looking for another free website for games similar to Starfall , for some time. I think I have found it. I can feel confident having Eli and Brynne play these games.

Cells ~ It's What's for Dinner

Dawson made edible cells on Friday. He made an animal cell pizza ... and a plant cell chocolate chip cookie ... He reviewed what he's learned about cells the past two weeks, and I had dinner made by someone else. Win, win!! I am linking up at Science Sunday at Adventures in Mommydom.

Last Child in the Woods ~ Chapters 1-4

Welcome to our book study of Last Child in the Woods by Richard Louv. To be honest, I have no idea what this "study" is going to look like. I imagine that when we get together I will post about all of the things that caught my eye.
