The 12 Days of a Simple Christmas (Revisited) ~ Day 4 Teacher's Gifts

Eli is one of those students who loves every teacher, and every teacher loves him .. even if he doesn't have them for any classes. He loves the secretaries (and never leaves for the day without hugging each of them), loves his principal and librarian and P.E. teacher and music teacher and computer teacher. He also has a speech pathologist, occupational therapist and reading specialist. Of course we give a Christmas gift to his homeroom teacher. But, he would be devastated if he didn't get to hand a gift to each of his other teachers (down to the lunchroom monitor, nurse, counselor and school instructional assistant.) That can get expensive!! But we are grateful for them all and want to thank them for their love and care.

Here is our yearly solution, that doesn't cost much. But they are oh ... so ... good!

Spicy Pretzels

15 oz. bag pretzels

1 package dry ranch dressing (i.e. Hidden Valley)

3/4 cup oil

1/2 tsp. lemon pepper

1/2 tsp. garlic salt

1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper

Put all ingredients into a gallon-sized ziplock bag and shake. Shake and mix every 20-30 minutes for a couple of hours. Let sit for 24 hours before dividing. These ingredients fill about 3 cellophane Christmas snack gift bags.

Now that we are homeschoolers, we don't have all of those teachers. However, these are great gifts to give to Sunday school teachers, the mailman, the librarians, and coaches. They will all be receiving these from us this year.

Eli's reading resource teacher shared a website with me yesterday that I would like to pass along. It's called ABCya . There are separate educational sections with fantastic games for ages kindergarten through 5th grade. I browsed the 2nd grade level, and it includes age-appropriate games about Letters, Numbers, Shapes, Geometry, Patterns, Mouse Manipulation, Art and Holiday games. There are lots and lots of fun and creative games for children to play. They are fun, but oh, so educational. Eli's favorite, in his short time playing it, was Create a Car . A lot of the games also have Apps available for purchase (99 cents for most of them) for the iPad and iPhone. I have been looking for another free website for games similar to Starfall , for some time. I think I have found it. I can feel confident having Eli and Brynne play these games.

Cells ~ It's What's for Dinner

Dawson made edible cells on Friday. He made an animal cell pizza ... and a plant cell chocolate chip cookie ... He reviewed what he's learned about cells the past two weeks, and I had dinner made by someone else. Win, win!! I am linking up at Science Sunday at Adventures in Mommydom.

Last Child in the Woods ~ Chapters 1-4

Welcome to our book study of Last Child in the Woods by Richard Louv. To be honest, I have no idea what this "study" is going to look like. I imagine that when we get together I will post about all of the things that caught my eye.
